§ Mr. TimmsContributions totalling £184 million have been spent under the landfill tax environmental bodies credit scheme since the introduction of the tax on 1 October 1996 to 21 March 2001. Of this amount £106 million has been spent on community projects carried out in the vicinity of landfill sites. Landfill site operators can claim 90 per cent. of contributions as landfill tax credits subject to this not exceeding 20 per cent. of their annual liability.
