HC Deb 30 October 2000 vol 355 c331W
Mr. Peter Ainsworth

To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport what plans the Government have to support a British bid to host the 2012 Olympic Games. [134482]

Mr. Chris Smith

[holding answer 26 October 2000]: We are committed to supporting a viable Olympic bid but the decision on whether or not to bid is for the National Olympic Committee—the British Olympic Association (BOA). The BOA have been carrying out extensive studies on the viability of a London bid for 2012 and have promised to submit their conclusions to the Government by the end of the year.
