HC Deb 30 October 2000 vol 355 c282W
Mr. Bercow

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will make a statement on the New Deal for Young People in Wales. [134410]

Mr. Paul Murphy

The New Deal for 18–24 year olds continues to make excellent progress in Wales. We are already well past our target of helping 13,000 young unemployed people into work by the end of this Parliament. Latest figures show that more than 15,600 young people in Wales have secured employment.

A further 6,800 people are currently being helped through the New Deal; receiving advice and guidance or pursuing education, training, or work experience.
