HC Deb 30 November 2000 vol 357 c957W
Mr. Home Robertson

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what extra funding has been made available to the Department of Trade and Industry for the development of post office counter services in rural and deprived urban areas; and what consequential allocation was made to the Scottish Executive. [139068]

Mr. Andrew Smith

The Government's plans to modernise the Post Office Network in the UK are set out in "Spending Review 2000: New Public Spending Plans 2001–03". As set out in the Supplementary Memorandum submitted by DTI to the Trade and Industry Select Committee, included in the Committee's thirteenth report on the Post Office and the Future of the Network, this included provision of £220 million for DTI for a UK wide programme. Copies of both can be found in the Library of the House.
