To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security, pursuant to his oral statement of 9 November 2000,Official Report, column 452, what was the basis of his calculation that one in six pensioner couples are retiring on income of more than £20,000 per annum; and if he will disaggregate this income by average amount earned from each source using the categories in the Pensioners Incomes Series. The Pensioners Incomes Series data set was based on the Family Resources Survey (FRS) 1998–99, a copy of which is in the Library.
