To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many complaints against medical practitioners practising in Scotland were handled by the General Medical Council in each of the last five years; how many were dismissed; and what penalties were applied where the complaint was found to be justified. [holding answer 13 November 2000]: These matters are the responsibility of the General Medical Council. I understand that the GMC will shortly be in a position to provide this information when they have completed improvements to their information technology systems.
