§ Mr. HuttonThe Department of Health does not intervene in the individual prescribing decisions of general practitioners. However the Department issued Health Service Circulars 1999/049 and 2000/02 to the National Health Service, which gave advice on the monitoring and optimising of antimicrobial prescribing.
