§ Mr. Paul MurphyI meet regularly with my right hon. Friend the First Minister and discuss a number of issues, including the steel industry. The Government fully understand the importance of a successful manufacturing sector, and steel is making a vital contribution to the economy and employment.
Manufacturing output in Wales in the four quarters to the second quarter of 2000 was 4.2 per cent. higher than in the corresponding period of 1999 and 7 per cent. higher than in 1995.
