HL Deb 15 November 2000 vol 619 cc38-9WA
Lord Laird

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will reopen the inquiry into the Chinook helicopter crash on the Mull of Kintrye on 2 June 1994 in view of fresh evidence about the reliability of its computer software; and whether the wreckage is still available for re-examination. [HL4543]

The Minister of State, Ministry of Defence (Baroness Symons of Vernham Dean)

We have seen no evidence about the reliability of the computer software on Chinook ZD576 that either causes us to doubt the integrity of the verdict of the RAF Board of Inquiry or would prompt us to hold a new Inquiry.

The wreckage of Chinook ZD576 remains in storage at the Defence Aviation Repair Agency Fleetlands, and will be retained for a long as necessary.
