To ask the President of the Council if she will mark next year's International Year of Volunteers by spending a day working as a volunteer. [137435]

I fully support the aims of the International Year of Volunteers. I intend to take part in a voluntary activity during 2001.

The Privy Council Office fully supports the role that employers can play in the voluntary sector. A statement was made to all staff in June of this year confirming the Department's commitment to Volunteer Day and encouraging staff to become involved.
