HC Deb 02 November 2000 vol 355 c566W
Mr. Bercow

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment what evidence his Department has obtained of homophobic bullying resulting from the retention of section 28. [134717]

Jacqui Smith

Section 28 does not apply to schools, only to the activities of local education authorities.

The 1998 report "Playing it Safe", commissioned by Stonewall and the Terence Higgins Trust, and produced by the University of London Institute of Education, for the first time detailed the extent of homophobic bullying in schools.
