§ Mr. HainThe Lomé Peace Agreement was negotiated between the Government of Sierra Leone and the Revolutionary United Front, under the auspices of the Economic Community of West African States. Representatives from the international community, including the United Nations, the Commonwealth, the Organisation of African Unity, and the United States, as well as Britain, attended the negotiations.

§ Mr. HainThe Lomé Peace Agreement was signed on 7 July 1999. It provides for a permanent end to hostilities in Sierra Leone; disarmament, demobilisation and reintegration of all former combatants; democratic elections; the creation of effective and democratically accountable armed forces; and an international peacekeeping force to supervise the peace process.
