HC Deb 18 May 2000 vol 350 c257W
20. Mr. Barnes

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what representations he has received recently concerning the taxation of international currency speculation. [121391]

Miss Melanie Johnson

This House had the opportunity to discuss the taxation of international currency transactions on 18 April, in the adjournment debate tabled by my hon. Friend the Member for Glasgow, Maryhill (Mrs. Fyfe). My hon. Friend the Financial Secretary to the Treasury set out the Government's view on that occasion.

In addition, the Treasury has received several letters from hon. Members, who raised the issue on behalf of their constituents, and several letters directly from members of the public.
