To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many acute hospital care beds there are in NHS hospitals in the Greater London area. [122077]

The average daily number of available acute hospital care beds in the London region in the financial year 1998–99 was 17,022.

Bed data are not collected by general geographical area. The area covered by London Regional Office has been used as the closest approximation of Greater London.
