Mr. Robertson

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what was the cost of providing food to hospital patients, broken down by(a) staffing costs, (b) food costs and (c) other costs, in the last 12 months; and if he will make a statement. [119660]

Costs for provisions and kitchen and contract hotel services are collected from the trust financial returns and the latest firm information is for the 1998–99 financial year; this is shown in the table.

Information on staffing costs and food costs for providing food to hospital patients is not collected centrally.
