§ Mr. Chris SmithAs one of its pre-recruitment checks, my Department requires new employees to the Civil Service either on permanent or short-term contracts to provide birth certificates or similar documentary evidence for one or more of the following purposes: proof of identity, proof of eligibility under the Civil Service nationality rules and proof of age. Contractors are required to produce them only if there are questions about identity.
