§ Baroness Farrington of RibbletonEC Directive 76/160/EEC requires member states to identify bathing waters. Once identified, bathing waters must be sampled regularly to show that they meet the bacteriological standards prescribed in the annex to the directive. In Wales sampling is undertaken by the Environment Agency on behalf of the National Assembly for Wales, whose responsibility this is.
