HC Deb 28 March 2000 vol 347 c115W
Kali Mountford

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security what plans he has for the strategic management of information technology services within his Department; and if he will make a statement. [116744]

Angela Eagle

Following a review carried out in 1999, my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State approved a recommendation to transfer responsibility for the strategic management of the Department's information technology (IT) services from the Information Technology Services Agency (ITSA) to within the Department's HQ. This change will help maximise our ability to get the most out of our IT suppliers and facilitate the continued development of the Department's corporate IT strategy.

This development has been endorsed by colleagues in the Treasury and Cabinet Office and means that the ITSA will cease to be an Executive Agency from 1 April.
