HL Deb 22 March 2000 vol 611 c31WA
Lord Pilkington of Oxenford

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Why the National Grammar Schools Association's request to the Department for Education and Employment made on 12 December 1999 to provide the data which would enable it to carry out an exercise similar to the one the department made in its Statistical Bulletin 13/84 has not been acknowledged. [HL1533]

Baroness Blackstone

The department is arranging to provide Mr Naylor, the author of this request, with access to anonymised individual pupil KS3 to GCSE/GNVQ information in order that he can, under the appropriate confidentiality constraints imposed by the department, conduct research on behalf of the National Grammar Schools Association. The linkage over the last few years of information on individual pupils' progress provides a more robust basis of analysing the relative performance of schools and local authorities than does the method and information used in Statistical Bulletin 13/84.
