HC Deb 03 March 2000 vol 345 c434W
Mrs. Gillan

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will list the further support announced during his visit to Africa for the Burundi peace process. [112381]

Mr. Hain

The UK has supported the Burundi peace process politically, with resources and with personnel. The UK has contributed over £250,000 so far and will continue to support the process as long as the current momentum is maintained.

I attended the Burundi peace summit at Nelson Mandela's request in Arusha on 21 February, and I announced a further contribution of £30,000 to the current round of negotiations and £50,000 for related reconciliation efforts in Burundi.
