§ The Prime MinisterThe Oil for Food programme began on 10 December 1996. As at 31 May 2000, 12,675 contracts with a total value of $15.6 billion had been received under the programme. As indicated previously, the UK checks all contracts to ensure that the goods will be used for their stated purpose.
