HL Deb 20 June 2000 vol 614 c17WA
Lord Alli

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they intend to set up a Joint Committee of both Houses to consider the parliamentary aspects of reform of this House, as set out in the White Paper Modernising Parliament; Reforming the House of Lords (Cm 4183, January 1999). [HL2952]

The Lord Privy Seal (Baroness Jay of Paddington)

Yes, my Lords. As my right honourable friend the President of the Council announced in another place during the course of its debate on the Report of the Royal CommissionA House for the Future (Cm 4534, January 2000) the Government do intend that such a committee should be established in due course. The membership and precise terms of reference will need to be considered with the usual channels in both Houses.
