HC Deb 12 June 2000 vol 351 c508W
Dr. Gibson

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what action he will take following the criticism made in the judgment of Mr. Justice Burton on the actions taken by police during the visit of the President of China; and if he will make a statement. [124890]

Mr. Charles Clarke

I understand that the judgment in this case, while noting that there remained some disagreement between the parties on matters of fact, supported the declarations granted by the Metropolitan Police and considered the matter settled.

It is for the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis to determine in the light of this case what changes should be made to policing arrangements for future events.
