To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer (1) how many members there are of public sector occupational pension schemes; and what is the (a) average and (b) median number of members in such schemes; [124505]

(2) how many public sector occupational pension schemes are (a) in existence and (b) receiving contributions; [124503]

(3) how many people transferred out of public sector occupational pension schemes owing to a change in occupation in each year since 1996; [124507]

(4) what is the (a) average and (b) median length of membership of public sector occupational pension schemes; [124506]

(5) how many public sector occupational pension schemes are funded (a) on a notional or pay as you go basis and (b) in the sense of holding investments. [124504]

The Government Actuary's Department estimate that including single-member schemes there may be as many as 30,000–40,000 pension schemes in the public sector. Information is not held centrally on all of these schemes and could be collected only at disproportionate cost.
