HC Deb 28 July 2000 vol 354 c1134W
Mr. Oaten

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will list the UK farms where genetically-modified seed has been planted in the last two years. [123961]

Ms Quin

The following information is available on the Department of Environment, Transport and the Regions' (DETR) website (www.environment.detr.gov.uk):

  1. (a) all the locations where genetically modified (GM) crops have been planted as part of the farm-scale evacuation programme; and
  2. (b) all other locations where GM plants have consent to be grown this year for research purposes, except those where the plant concerned already has a marketing consent for cultivation under Part C of EU Directive 90/220.

Information on the location of research releases prior to this year not covered by a Part C consent is available on the Public Register held by the DETR.

In addition, the locations of National List trials of GM plants run under Part C marketing consents are available on request from the Ministry's Plant Varieties and Seeds Division in Cambridge.
