To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer how much has been spent to date by HM Government on the publication and distribution of information relating to the introduction of the euro; and what further spending is planned. [129449]

[holding answer 10 July 2000]: Since 1998 the Treasury has spent £8.8 million on information to help UK firms understand the impact that the euro may have on their business and to provide them with practical advice.

The Treasury will continue to provide support to firms.
