To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions what the start date is for construction works on the Channel Tunnel Rail Link Part 2 cited on pages 44 and 47 of his Department's Ten-Year Plan announced on 27 July 2000. [133505]

Some construction work on Phase 2 has already started and the Government has already approved £300 million for preliminary Phase 2 work. London and Continental Railways (LCR)'s current expectation is that the main construction will commence in July 2001 and Phase 2 will be opened in 2007.
