To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions how the costs of the resurfacing of the A30 near Exeter recently announced by the Prime Minister will be split between the Highways Agency and the private sector. [133580]

Mr. Hill

I have asked the Chief Executive of the Highways Agency to write to the hon. Member.

Letter from Richard Thorndike to Dr. Evan Harris, dated 28 July 2000The Transport Minister, Keith Hill, has asked me to reply to your recent Parliamentary Question about the cost of resurfacing the A30 near Exeter. Although the Government is firmly committed to resurfacing this road, the road is privately financed and we have yet to discuss the matter with the operating company.
