HC Deb 27 July 2000 vol 354 cc895-7W
Mr. Flynn

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what proportion of prisoners tested positive for illicit drugs in each British prison during the last year for which figures are available. [132953]

Mr. Boateng

Random mandatory drug testing (MDT) is a Key Performance Indicator (KPI) for the Prison Service. The rate of positive tests as a percentage of all random drugs tests for the year 1999–2000 for each prison in England and Wales is shown in the table. The target for the Prison Service overall last year was 18.5 per cent. Performance was 14.2 per cent.

Only prisons that were operational for the full year 1999–2000 have been included.
