When they plan to issue the consultation document on the implementation of the recommendations of the Committee on Medical Aspects of Food and Nutrition Policy (COMA) on the addition of folic acid to flour. [HL3564]

The United Kingdom Health Departments and the Food Standards Agency have today published a joint public consultation document on the report from the Committee on Medical Aspects of Food and Nutrition Policy which concluded that all flour should be fortified with folic acid to prevent neural tube defects. The consultation period runs until 31 October 2000. The document is available in the Library and on the internet atwww.doh.gov.uk/folicacid.
