§ Mr. Quentin DaviesTo ask the Secretary of State for Defence what are(a) the roles for which the Typhoon is specified, and (b) aircraft types which it will be replacing in the RAF. [129318]
§ Mr. Hoon[holding answer 13 July 2000]: Typhoon is the name given by industry to the export version of Eurofighter; it is not the name for RAF aircraft. Eurofighter will, on achieving full capability, have air defence and offensive support roles. It will replace the Tornado F3 and Jaguar aircraft respectively in these roles.
