HC Deb 17 July 2000 vol 354 c36W
Mr. Quinn

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security if he will make a statement on the impact of pensions reform on long-term carers. [129342]

Mr. Rooker

Our proposed State Second Pension will help some 2 million carers a year build up entitlement to a second tier pension for the first time.

Each qualifying year of caring will mean about £1 a week extra pension in today's terms. So the greatest gains will go to long-term carers.
