HC Deb 27 January 2000 vol 343 cc284-5W
27. Mr. Gill

To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what representations he has received about integrated pollution prevention and control changes; and if he will make a statement. [105776]

Mr. Alan Johnson

My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry has received a small number of representations concerning integrated pollution prevention and control changes.

Representations on issues including scope, timing and charges have also been made to officials in the Department of Trade and Industry.

DTI officials have discussed industry concerns with officials in the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions. DETR is responsible for regulations implementing integrated pollution prevention and control (IPPC) on a phased basis in England and Wales. These are expected to be laid and to come into force later this year.

However, the application of the IPPC Directive to offshore combustion installations is the responsibility of the DTI and was part of a wider public consultation exercise on the future of the offshore oil and gas environmental regime undertaken in the spring of 1999. A further consultation on the regulations covering offshore combustion installations was initiated in December 1999.
