HC Deb 27 January 2000 vol 343 c330W
Mr. Gerrard

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what plans he has to review the NHS guidelines for the treatment of people from abroad. [102610]

Ms Stuart

The current Regulations covering charges to overseas visitors for National Health Service hospital treatment came into force on 1 April 1989 (Statutory Instrument 1989 No. 306) and were amended in 1991 (SI 1991 No. 438) and 1994 (SI 1994 No. 1535). The Regulations provide for NHS trusts to establish if an individual patient is exempt from charges and, if not, to make and recover charges for hospital treatment from the liable individual.
