§ Mr. BattleKarpal Singh, the Deputy Chairman of the Democratic Action Party (DAP) and a lawyer for Anwar Ibrahim, the former deputy Prime Minister, was arrested on 12 January. He has been accused of making seditious comments in court during the Anwar trial. He has been released on bail.
This case raises significant legal issues, and we shall be following it closely. We are in regular contact with the Malaysian authorities on such matters.
