To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland (1) in relation to implementation of section 39 of the Firearms (Amendment) Act 1997(a) who is responsible for the problem, (b) who are the stakeholders and (c) what are the success criteria; and if he will make a statement; [106420]

(2) when he expects police forces in Scotland to comply with the requirement of section 39 of the Firearms (Amendment) Act 1997; what is the reason for the delay in doing so; and if he will make a statement. [106418]

The requirements of section 39 of the Firearms (Amendment) Act 1997 are met in Scotland by the Scottish Criminal Records Office computer database which records all certificate holders and firearms dealers and is accessible on-line to Scottish police forces.
