To ask the Secretary of State for Health what assessment he has made of the studies carried out at Warwick University concerning the vulnerability of human beings to external electrical fields. [102862]

Published research studies on the health effects of electromagnetic fields in general are regularly reviewed by the National Radiological Protection Board and its Advisory Group on Non-ionising Radiation.

The independent expert group on mobile phones, set up at the request of my right hon. Friend the Member for Dulwich and West Norwood (Ms Jowell), the former Minister for Public Health, is currently undertaking a rigorous assessment of biological and health research related to mobile phone systems. The group is expected to report in spring 2000.
