To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions if he will list those organisations which have made representations to him calling for (a) the repeal and (b) the retention of section 28 of the Local Government Act 1988. [111031]

The Government have received many representations, from both organisations and members of the public, concerning the repeal of section 28 of the Local Government Act 1988.

Organisations who have expressed their support for the repeal include:

  • Save the Children
  • The British Medical Association
  • The Royal College of Nursing
  • National Union of Teachers
  • Local Government Association
  • Terrence Higgins Trust
  • Trade Unions Congress
  • Stonewall
  • Outrage
  • The Family Planning Association.

Organisations who have expressed their opposition to the repeal include:

  • The Christian Institute
  • Intercessors for Britain
  • Riverside Christian Centre, Exeter
  • Christian Life Centre, Wolverhampton
  • Concern for Family and Womanhood, Cheltenham
  • Lighthouse Enterprises, Middlesex
  • Wigan Family Care Centre
  • The Crops Trust, Peterborough.
