§ Mr. Spellar[holding answer 2 February 2000]: The cost of training RAF pilots varies according to the aircraft to be flown and the individual. However, in recent years 351W it has cost approximately £2.8 million to train a fast jet pilot, £2.4 million to train the pilot of a transport or other multi-engined aircraft and £1.1 million to train a helicopter pilot.
