To ask the Secretary of State for Health what assessment he has made of the average time spent on private practice by NHS consultants. [107390]

The vast majority of our consultants work hard for the National Health Service and more than fulfil their contractual commitments.

We are currently negotiating a new modern contract for consultants with the Central Consultants and Specialists Committee of the British Medical Association. We want to see better, more robust job planning arrangements,
