To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment which of the top 15 per cent. of most improved(a) primary and (b) secondary schools in England in 1997 to 2000 by region have 50 per cent. or more of pupils in receipt of free school meals; and if he will make a statement on the provision of bonuses for teachers and staff in those schools. School Achievement Awards will fund staff bonuses at rapidly improving and high performing schools. The first round of awards will be announced before Easter.

Schools in the top 15 per cent. of 'most improved' schools in England, 1997 to 2000 (Performance Tables definition), with 50 per cent. or more of pupils 'known to be eligible for free school meals'
