§ Mr. Charles ClarkeInformation taken from the Home Office Court Proceedings Database shows that in England and Wales in 1997 there were 20,744 defendants prosecuted for fraud (including false accounting) offences. In 1998, the figure was 23,880. Provisional data for 1999 will be available in the summer.
