To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment what action his Department is taking to(a) identify and (b) address the specific needs of the Irish community in Britain. [107584]

Mr. Wills

This Department is committed to ensuring all its policies and programmes promote equality of opportunity for disabled people, ethnic minorities and between men and women.

Furthermore, Irish was added as a national curriculum language in 1999 in response to representations from schools with a large Irish intake.
