The Solicitor-GeneralOn 2 December 1999, Mr. John Howes, a member of the Treasury Solicitor's staff, visited the Law Society's headquarters in Chancery Lane for the purpose of having lunch with an administrator in a client department, the Office of Fair Trading, on whose behalf he had conduct of a case. He had attended the High Court for an interlocutory hearing in that case with the administrator in the morning. In the afternoon he was to attend a meeting in the offices of the Office of Fair Trading in Chancery House, Chancery Lane. Mr. Howes had no other purpose in visiting the Law Society on that date.
