To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what plans he has to introduce VAT at 17.5 per cent. on new houses; and if he will make a statement. [94196]

§ Dawn Primarolo
The Chancellor has no present plans to impose VAT at 17.5 per cent. on new houses. The Government keep under review the scope for using economic instruments to complement the planning system in achieving their social and environmental objectives.
