To ask the Secretary of State for Health if he will make a statement about the composition of the body he plans to establish to regulate professions allied to medicine. [93907]

Mr. Hutton

No decisions have been taken about the precise composition of the new Health Professions Council, which will eventually replace the Council for Professions Supplementary to Medicine, using an Order under s60 of the Health Act 1999. The Government is committed to full and wide-ranging consultation on the proposals for new legislation in addition to the statutory consultation on the draft Order required by the Health Act, with a report to Parliament on the outcome when the Order is laid.
