HC Deb 19 October 1999 vol 336 cc423-4W
Mr. Wyatt

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what is the size of the existing surplus of 5001b bombs in this country; and what the cost(a) has been to manufacture and (b) will be to destroy this surplus. [94051]

Mr. Kilfoyle

There are currently no surplus 5001b bombs in this country. However, a number of 5001b bombs which had reached the end of their initial service life, and which subsequent testing had shown to be defective, were destroyed earlier this year at a cost of around £135K.
