HL Deb 11 October 1999 vol 605 cc20-1WA
Lord Monson

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many passengers have been convicted for failing to wear seatbelts in the rear of taxis in each year since wearing became compulsory (a) in the Metropolitan Police district and (b) elsewhere in Great Britain; and what was the maximum fine imposed. [HL4093]

Lord Bassam of Brighton

It is net possible, in the statistics held centrally either in England and Wales or in Scotland, to distinguish between drivers and passengers convicted of failing to wear seatbelts, nor is it known what type of vehicle is involved.
