Further to the Written Answer by the Baroness Symons of Vernham Dean on 15 July (WA55), on what occasions the Council of Ministers has considered the resolution of 15 July 1998 of the European Parliament on common principles for elections to the European Parliament. [HL4025]

The proposal is currently under discussion in the relevant Council working group and has not yet come to the Council of Ministers for discussion or decision. As my noble friend the Baroness Symons of Vernham Dean indicated in her previous reply (WA55), now that the Amsterdam Treaty is in force, the European Parliament must adopt a formal proposal on this issue before the Council can take a decision.
