HC Deb 11 November 1999 vol 337 cc806-7W
Mr. Webb

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security, pursuant to his answer of 4 November 1999,Official Report, column 310, if in response to his Department continuing to make payments direct to lenders, lenders have undertaken under the 1991 agreement to continue not to take possession; and if the agreement relates only to cases where income support covers 100 per cent. of the mortgage interest. [98191]

Mr. Bayley

The payment of mortgage interest direct to lenders clearly reduces significantly the number of people who will fall into arrears or increase arrears that they might have had before they claimed Income Support Mortgage Interest. The Code of Mortgage Lending practice produced by the lending industry clearly states that people with arrears will be considered sympathetically and positively.
